ECAAQL

Welcome

Welcome to East Central Alabama Alliance for Quality Living. Although our organization originated in 2001, in response to the threat of a quarry locating in our midst, our mission is much broader.

We at ECAAQL are particularly interested in the responsible economic growth of east central Alabama, to include preservation of the invaluable environmental assets which either attracted many of us to this area, or were important in our decisions to stay here.

We in east central Alabama are blessed with water, wildlife and woods. This organization is committed to the preservation of the unique aspects of this area which provide a “sense of place,” and to an understanding that this place is unique, is to be cherished.

Our “sense of place” includes not only our water, wildlife and woods, but our history—including the Creek Indians and the Civil War saga. It encompasses our celebrations, such as Loachapoka’s “Syrup Sop,” Auburn’s “CityFest,” Opelika’s “Rails and Bales,” and incorporates our diverse cultures and lifestyles. Members of ECAAQL range from farmers to small business owners to college professors—all of whom cherish that which is special about this place we call home.

As our organization grows and defines itself, we seek to provide a voice which speaks with regard for our past, which inspires respect for our natural resources, and which provides education leading to the embodiment of our mission statement:

Mission Statement
The mission of East Central Alabama Alliance for Quality Living is to celebrate our area’s native assets and attributes, both natural and man-made, which contribute to our unique sense of place, while promoting environmentally responsible economic growth.
